Circumcision is a Crime

A devout Muslim physician in Cologne circumcised a four-year-old boy in a professional manner, as the boy’s parents had requested. A medical indication did not exist. Two days later, as “normally” can happen, secondary bleeding occurred. The mother brought her son to the University Hospital Cologne where the bleeding was successfully stopped. Prosecuting authorities caught wind of this event and filed a suit on the grounds of §223 StGB against the physician. LG2G briefly explains how and why the courts reacted.

Has it ever happened to you that accidently - of course - drove a bit more than allowed? Well, you are not the only one! Some traffic offenders were caught and their lawyer applied in court the novel notion that taking pictures of drivers without their consent may not be used in court as evidence. The Federal Constitutional Court took a position on this in its judgment of July 5, 2010 (re 2 BvR 759/10).

Germany Purchasing Tax Fraudster CD

As has been heavily discussed in the press, Germany has decided to buy the "Tax Fraudster CD". In other words, the German government has decided to buy a CD containing data on alleged tax evaders, even though the information being sold was illegally gathered. The government intends to get wise to those who "forgot" to mention some foreign income. Is the policy legally permissible? May the state make common ground with criminals to catch other mal-doers?
