Taking Revenge on Cell-Phone Thieves
Do you feel sort of naked whenever you leave the house without your cell phone? I bet you would feel naked if your phone were ever to be stolen. If that happens, the first thing to do is to contact your provider and have it blocked, thus preventing the thief from jacking up your phone bill. What about revenge? As we all learned in Sunday school, we ought to forgive. Therefore I am not suggesting you physically punish the thief, but only that you take measures to prevent him from using your valuable gadget.

I really do not understand why phone manufacturers have made such a mystery of this gimmick. Every mobile phone has its own individual serial number, and it is easy to find: Type the following combination on your phone * # 06 # (star hash 06 hash) and press the green button. The serial number will then appear in the display. Jot that number down and keep it in a safe place just in case your cell phone is stolen – which may never happen. If it does occur, contact your cell phone shop or the manufacturer and request that your phone be blocked. This will be a total block; the thief will not be able to use the apparatus anymore – even with a new SIM chip. The phone will become absolutely useless.
My suggestion will not prevent theft, but it will deprive the thief of the pleasure of using your phone. Tell your friends and you might even help prevent thefts in the future. If everybody uses this trick, we can realistically hope that thefts of cell phones will sharply decline.
